For relaxation, Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes:
Effleurage (light touch)
Tapotement (rhythmic tapping)
Relaxation massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, stress and joint stiffness.
Using myofascial release, trigger point therapy and neuromuscular therapy , these sessions specifically treat the muscular tension involved in TMJ (jaw) dysfunction. Usually, this treatment takes about 45 minutes and includes work on the tissues and muscles inside the mouth. This is typically an intense, but effective treatment.
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the same strokes are used as relaxation massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.
NMT is designed to assess, treat and prevent soft tissue injury and pain. A sometimes intense therapy, the work addresses five elements that can cause pain: Ischemia (lack of blood supply to soft tissues which causes hypersensitivity to touch,) trigger points (highly irritated points in muscles that refer pain to other parts of the pody,) nerve compression or entrapment, postural distortions and biomechanical dysfunction.
